Marquez’s whining, a motivation for Pacquiao – Arum
Juan Manuel Marquez has been whining that both of the fights where he and Manny Pacquiao met in 2004 and 2008 should have been awarded to him.
In 2004, their fight ended to a draw while the 2008 fight was awarded to Pacquiao via majority decision.
Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, claimed that Marquez's whining has been one of the motivations for the Pinoy fighter to win their fight for the people to know who the better fighter is.
Marquez, in pursuit of revenge and money, has always been challenging Pacquiao to fight him again. Now, he has granted his wish and the world would know who the real champion is after their fight scheduled on November 12 at Las Vegas, Nevada.
Arum also said that it's now senseless for Marquez to repeat the same lines over and over that he is the real champion as he has beaten Manny twice.
"I think it's very personal for Manny because both fights were so close and I think the whining after the second fight didn't do Marquez any good," Arum told boxingscene.com.
"Really the [third] fight was going to happen now anyway. In other words, it was senseless. All it did was make Marquez, who is a nice guy, look like a sore loser."
The third fight has a catch weight of 147 pounds and to be able to fight the 8-division champion, Marquez has to gain weight. True enough, he has gained more muscles this time but Ariza, Pacquiao's conditioning coach said; "Muscles don't win fights..."
